Ethiopian Sprinter Boki Tadele Sets National Record in 400m
Ethiopian sprinter Boki Tadele captured the headlines this week after chucking an impressive 44.79 for the men’s 400m to set a new national record at the African Athletics Grand Prix in Nairobi on July 6.
The teenager, long ago identified as the brightest sprinting talent in Ethiopia represents a nation traditionally associated with long-distance runners. A strong finish and explosive starts had attracted the attention of international scouts and track analysts.
“I have been working for this moment for years,” he said after the race. “It’s time Ethiopia should also be recognized for sprinting.”
His performance duly earned him the ticket for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games to feature for Ethiopia in the 400m and 4×400 relay.
